In 1997 I started the second half of my career with a simple mission: to increase the lifespan of the thousands of extended-stay hotels that I designed as an architect in the first half of my career. The market demanded these structures originally meant to last 25 years would need to last twice that - and more. So the industry needed new ideas on how to maintain and restore them to extend their lifespans while still operating and producing revenue from their long term guests. Well…. I love a challenge. And no one knew these properties better from a technical perspective. So off we went!
Fast forward a few years and a patented railing system later, we perfected a way to replace an entire Residence Inn exterior stairway - in a single day - when our competitors were taking rooms out of service and causing guest complaints for weeks! BCS rapidly became known to hotel ownership groups across the nation as “the stair guru’s” leading to thousands of exterior stairway restorations and replacements that continue today.
Over the decades since, we’ve expanded our services to cover every exterior maintenance and restoration need any hotel or multi-unit residential building could ever need. Whether it’s roofing, siding, painting, or window replacements, our successful formula never changed: We do it smarter, and we do it faster with craftsmen trained like ninja’s to work in occupied residential environments.
I handed over day-to-day operations to my partner, Ryan, back in 2009. Yet I still love the challenges these properties continue to provide BCS. From technical forensic work solving water migration issues to improving the designs and value-engineering entire Brand Re-imaging / Refresh Programs, I gladly share with you my 50+ year experience in designing, restoring, and even owning hotels.
